Ooh, today nearly kicked my booty. Everything was more interesting than my novel today and it's only day three! I got into the videos from the Rally to Restore Sanity, checked on the election results, read Facebook, Twitter, and my email. Then I watched my favorite show, Criminal Minds - extra creepy, thanks. The Defenders is hard to miss, what with my boy Jerry.
I did make the official word count for the day, but I'm having a hard time with the new stats, and especially the tweaked monthly progress icon over there on the right. Today has a big yellow dot, not red and not green (so traffic light-like). I'm on track for the total word count, but I did not write 1667 words today. I had more words on Monday and Tuesday, so had fewer to write today (in my mind).
In years past, I've gotten so far behind I needed a 5000 word day just to catch up. I'm working to keep my head above water as it were and do at LEAST the minimum daily word count goal. So some days I write more, some days I may write less. The new goals are nifty and I like all the statsy goodness. I'm just having a bit of a hard time wrapping my mind around the changes. I do miss the progress report - which has been replaced by the Nano Stats page on the author profile.
I also think I should get at least a light green day for a day when I hit the total word count goal, not just the daily grind goal. I know for a fact that there may be days in this lovely month of November that I just don't write 1667 words, or that I write 2500 words. It all works out in the end (check my excellent track record). The one year I dropped out, I had just started a new job and bought a house. Do I regret not finishing, yes, am I going to beat myself up over it, no. I made the best choice for me.
At any rate, it's getting late here and I have 1667 words to write tomorrow as well as work and buy dinner for Mom and take the dog for a walk and ...
Sweet dreams!
Edit: Would that my character were writing a NaNoNovel and I could use the above blog post in my NaNo! Alas, that is not my lot.
This will be the year I write another 50,000 plus word novel in November. Yes, it will. Come watch here.

Day 2
I now have two major characters, some relatives, and a bit of a plot. Next stop, New York City (get a rope).

Day 1
I don't think I'm going to post my novel this year. So far it's terribly disjointed - more so than "usual". Perhaps I'll post snippets or synopses.
Today went well, over on word count, got a chance to hang with a NaNo friend and attempt the kick off party. I think I have somewhat of a plot and some characters forming. We'll see how it goes, shall we?
Tomorrow is Election Day! Get out and Vote!! Now back to my regularly scheduled reading of the blue book and thoughts of political parties dancing in my head.

Gearing up for NaNoWriMo 2010
Just setting everything up and logging in to the site and all that jazz. Here's where I'll be posting (possibly daily) my writing exploits for NaNo 2010.
Coffee and hot tea will be my mainstay caffeine vehicles... Last weekend I had about the most Starbucks I've ever had in my life - there's one on every corner practically in NYC. Now to just load up my SB card and carry it around, getting frothy warm caffeinated drinks on a semi-weekly basis. Whee.
Okay, since I'm going to be serious about my writing, I should be serious about my posting, but it just isn't going that way today - 10/10/10. Perhaps a comedy this year? Something light and frothy? Ah, but the crux is, behind and within humor lies pain. When have I ever experienced pain? Have to dive into that pool of murky waters. I'll let you know what I find...
I'll be sure to come back this year for more postings. Last year was a win, but hardly any posts (eek, I don't think one!) So at least here is one and we'll go from there. Now where's my coffee...
